Theory of change

Theory of Change is a well-respected approach to planning and understanding how to achieve specific goals or change. In 2024, during the run-up to our 20th anniversary year, we applied it in workshops and seminars to update and clearly define our vision, mission and goals. This infographic summarises the outcome and you can also read our in-full Theory of Change report here.

More about Theory of Change

The Theory of Change is a way to plan and understand how to identify and achieve a specific goals or change. It’s like a roadmap that shows the steps needed to get from where you are now to where you want to be.

Here's how it works:

Start with the goal: Identify the big change or outcome you want to achieve. This is our destination.

Work backwards: Identifying what needs to happen just before we achieve our your goal. Then, keep working backwards to identify all the smaller steps and conditions that need to be in place along the way.

Identify activities: Determine what actions or activities will help us achieve each of these smaller steps. These are the directions on our roadmap.

Check assumptions: Make sure we understand and consider any assumptions or conditions that must be true for our plan to work. These are like the road conditions or weather that could affect your journey.

Make it accessible and understandable: Creating visual "map" or infographic.
