We were saddened to hear news of Schumacher College’s planned closure.
The College has been a pillar supporting Totnes’ and our district’s treasured and well-deserved progressive reputation. Its loss would be a painful blow to our town, to the Dartington Estate, and to the wider essential cause of inspiring and equipping students looking to lead and live the transition to a more sustainable, fairer world.
This is why, excitedly and hopefully, we are sharing news of an opportunity to contribute financially towards a renewed and independent Schumacher College.
A fantastic team of people are working very hard to make Schumacher College independent and secure a home for the future of this world-renowned institution. We encourage everyone who can to support this cause by donating and or sharing this campaign and following developments at the Satish Kumar Foundation.
The work of Satish and others over many years have been a pioneering journey into the kind of education and growth we need more than ever in these times of climate emergency.
Schumacher is visionary. It was first in the world to offer a postgraduate programme in Economics for Transition, and for nearly 20 years Transition Town Totnes and Schumacher College have enjoyed a wonderful, near symbiotic relationship. Witness the association in our earliest Programme of Events from 2006.
To our friends and colleagues at Schumacher College, our deepest heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all you have given our town. Our thoughts are with you at this challenging time.
